I disagree the kickstarter was so successful "because" of 3 exclusive plastic models. I would suggest the kickstarter was successful because it had minis and the promise of a cool zombie game.
And I wholeheartidly disagree with you! Those exclusive minis are the first factor that made this campaign so successful. I guess you had to be there to understand it, but each time a promo was added, the numbers were going crazy. The last stretch goal (Evil Dead) added a few hours before the last minute almost crashed Kickstarter's servers. The exclusive enabled people to actually invest in a game they never saw the complete rules of. The fact that Zombicide ended up being a blast is a complete other story (and a matter of luck, some will say :p)

Does any of the Kickstarter folks feel cheated that they were selling them at BGG-Con?
Nope, they said it during the KS campaign that they would give/sell some of the 3 "vanilla" promos at conventions. Anyone feeling cheated because of that should be ashamed :P
