I like this variant. Only thing I might change would be for the abomination to take a full turn's worth of actions to break down a door. So he's more slow and brutal instead of all juggernautish.
I thought of a possible house rule some time ago where zombies in general would path as if all doors were open, and had a chance of breaking down doors based on the combined toughness of all the zombies piled up at a door. If there were two walkers (or runners) you'd have to roll a 2+ for the door to remain up, an abomination by itself would require a 3+, two fatties would require a 4+, etc. A single walker/runner would never be able to bash down a door but the probability increases with each new zombie (until a point where the door will always be broken down). Runners would potentially get two rolls, depending on placement, etc. I still think it'd be fun, though I've yet to try it out.
Slightly more on-topic here, while in general the Abomination does tend to be more of a slight annoyance than genuine threat, I've definitely had a few games where the Abomination becomes extremely problematic, usually when you end up caught in a relatively tight spot with many other zombies around. There's only so much movement sidestepping one can do when there are also hordes of other zombies getting in the way!
